Album Review: Don Toliver - Heaven Or Hell
Rising star Don Toliver has broadcasted his new album to the world with his project ‘Heaven or Hell’ Don Toliver is becoming well known for his melodic sound and having Travis Scott's label Cactus Jack behind him I was very excited to see what this project had in store.
Don Toliver opened this project very strongly with his opening two tracks ‘Heaven or Hell Intro’ and especially ‘Euphoria’. Euphoria opens with Travis Scott's trademark melodies along with a strong follow up from Kaash Paige that really sets the benchmark for Don Toliver to jump into the track. This song really brought back Astroworld vibes of the track ‘Can’t Say’ which was one song that helped launch Don Toliver into the spotlight.
If there is one thing Don Toliver has made clear through this project it is that he can write a hook. Tracks such as ‘After Party’ have such a catchy hook that I can see being sung by people at parties and clubs around the world. ‘Wasted’ follows this track which carries a chorus that urges the listener to want to leave the track on repeat.
Don Toliver isn't shy to tap into his emotions on his album with songs such as ‘Company’ where he talks about missing a certain someone and even with all the money and materialism that his situation brings it still doesn’t fill that void of not having her around. Whereas his song ‘Can’t Feel My Legs’ appears to address a situation that has happened in the past between Don Toliver and this woman.
One thing that standouts on this project is the variation and diversity between the tracks. I didn't feel as if I was hearing repetitive tracks and Oliver’s constant shifts inflow and production make this project easy to listen too, this project was easy to engage with and I will definitely be leaving it on repeat for months to come. Don Toliver is a superstar the whole world just doesn’t know yet.
