More details have emerged in the murder of Pop Smoke.

Over one year after the Brooklyn rapper was fatally shot during a home invasion, a preliminary hearing was held in Los Angeles on Friday, during which the first witness, Det. Christian Carrasco, took the stand.

According to the LAPD detective (via the New York Daily News), Pop Smoke (born Bashar Jackson) was taking a shower at his rented mansion in the Hollywood Hills on Feb. 19, 2020 when masked men stormed through a second-story balcony. One intruder allegedly held a semiautomatic firearm to the forehead of a woman who was in Jackson’s bedroom while the other men rushed into the adjoining bathroom.

“Shut the f**k up. Do you want to die?” the armed home invader allegedly told the woman.

Corey Walker, 20, has been charged with murder and robbery in the killing of Pop Smoke. He pleaded not guilty and appeared in court wearing an orange jail uniform and medical mask.

The woman who was with Pop Smoke the day he died spoke to police hours after the rapper was fatally shot in the torso. “She heard a struggle coming from the shower area and heard Mr. Jackson screaming. Mr. Jackson ran out of the bathroom and then she heard a loud pop and [heard] Mr. Jackson fall to the ground,” the detective said.

“Two other individuals began to kick him,” Carrasco said, citing the woman’s testimony. Upon hearing this, Pop Smoke’s mother, Audrey Jackson, who was present in the courtroom, shook her head and leaned forward, visibly upset.

According to the witness, Pop Smoke got up and ran downstairs. “She hears two more pops,” the detective said. “She follows Mr. Jackson, sees him on the ground and screams for Michael [Durodola] to call 911.”

The men reportedly stole a “large gold watch” and other jewelry from Jackson before fleeing the scene in an Infinity, which was captured on surveillance video.

One adult and three juveniles were charged with murder. The preliminary hearing will decide whether Walker, the sole adult suspect in the case, proceeds to trial.
