Album Review: Lil Durk - Just Cause Y'all Waited 2
27 Year Old Chicago native Lil Durk has released his new project “Just Cause Y'all Waited 2”.
Lil Durk takes the listener through a lot of personal stories and his come up on his new project with features from the likes of Lil Baby, Polo G, G Herbo and Gunna.
Lil Durk opens the album with “Different Meaning” where he really shows you his background and the situations he has been involved in from the likes of drug use and violence. Lil Durk starts his soulful and spiritual singing immediately as the project begins and Lil Durk show’s his vulnerable side early to the listener on a heartfelt track that really sets the bar for the album. Durk follows with “Street Affection” immediately after and in another heartfelt track Lil Durk calls out his old friends and oppositions. Lil Durk starts his new project with two very strong songs.
Lil Durk is really carrying across quite an emotional project, a lot of the tracks are very heartfelt and slow. Lil Durk really shows you the inside story of what he has been through a lot throughout this project. Durk constantly refers to where he was brought up as “The Trenches” and show’s how his upbringing has changed him and how he has lost many close people around him. “Just Cause You’ll Waited 2” isn’t a “Turn Up” sort of album but if you want to dive into some real stories and real-life situations that someone has had to go through this is the project for you.
I don’t think it is a coincidence that one of the last tracks on this project is called “Turn Myself In”. “Heard the Story, Think I'm finished” this track probably tops off all of Durk's other heartfelt tracks from this project, this song almost feels like a goodbye letter to his fans and family, where Durk raps about how his life will change from having “Margiela to state shoes” and how everything can change and be taken away from you in a moment. This track isn’t the best song itself on the album, but it is definitely the most emotional, this song also shows a lot about Lil Durk as a character with how he wants to make sure everyone around him is going to be alright before he goes in if he had to.
Lil Durk has really invited his audience into his life whether it be past or present on this project, Lil Durk has shown he can be vulnerable but still gangster at the same time. If you want a trap project that will pull at your heartstrings this is the project for you.
