Album Review: Lil Uzi Vert - Eternal Atake
It has been a long two and a half years since we were delivered with a Lil Uzi Vert project but through problems with his record label and other speculation that he was going to quit music, ‘Eternal Atake’ has finally arrived and in an unexpected way.
Lil Uzi Vert opens the album strongly with his first track ‘Baby Pluto’ where we are welcomed to ‘Eternal Atake’. Uzi glides over the beat with multiple switches in his flow that provides excitement for fans that Lil Uzi Vert is here and in a big way, this was the most perfect way to open the project.
The project ‘Eternal Atake’ is based off the Heaven's Gate Cult and their members using rituals to try to reach Alien Life. Some projects don't usually follow the theme of their album at all but you can tell Uzi has aimed to, especially with the production on his track ‘You Better Move’ where the sampled sirens and galaxy like blasting sounds provide an intergalactic type backdrop for the song. Uzi has projected Eternal Atake to be an experience for the listener.
Eternal Atake has only one credited feature on the album which comes from Syd who is the frontwoman from the group The Internet. This is a feature that I don't think many people would have seen coming before the tracklist reveal a few days prior. Their song ‘Urgency’ creates a beautiful melodic combination of the two artists which has possibly created one of the top tracks on the project.
Uzi ended up placing his two recent songs ‘Futsal Shuffle’ and ‘That Way’ as bonus tracks on the project which leaves you with the last track on the album ‘P2’, This song actually turns out to be a part two of Lil Uzi Vert's hit song ‘XO Tour Llif3'. Uzi's track is heartfelt where he raps about being numb to the money, fame, and success that his life brings. This was a very interesting way to finish the project.
There is so much hype around ‘Eternal Atake’ with all the outside issues of the release and whether we would ever hear the project. That much hype can sometimes be dangerous because fans create a false expectation at times. ‘Eternal Atake’ is overall a very clean project, it has come through with such high quality and thought-through production. At times some tracks can sound too similar but I enjoyed the whole process from the buildup of the trailer to the unexpected drop. Regardless, ‘Eternal Atake’ will be around in the charts for months to come. Welcome back Lil Uzi Vert.
