Album Review: Bryson Tiller - Anniversary
Bryson Tiller returns with a bang with Anniversary. The follow up to 2017’s True To Self expands on hits like Somethin’ Tells Me and throws in a little old school R&B for good measure. Released 5 years to the day after his breakout album Trapsoul, he reminds us why nobody does R&B like him.
He trades verses about toxic relationships and missed opportunities with Drake on Outta Time, the album’s only feature, and muses on the successes and pitfalls of fame and hard work on Years Go By. He keeps the momentum going with Always Forever, the LP’s second single, where he perhaps uses his flow the best. Other standouts include Things Change, Sorrows, and Keep Doing What You’re Doing, the latter reminiscient of Drake’s Look What You’ve Done.
If 2020 was in need of anything, it’s this album. Tiller has the uncanny ability to tap into emotions long forgotten or capture feelings not yet experienced, and he does it best on Anniversary.
