DJ Khaled's 'Father Of Asahd' Goes Gold
DJ Khaled is celebrating a victory after his album Father of Asahd was certified gold. The star-studded project moved 500,000 units since its release four weeks ago, thanks to singles like “No Brainer” and “Just Us.”
“Today is a great day! #FANLUV we did it! Father Of Asahd is officially certified GOLD!” said Khaled. “Couldn’t have done it without God, Asahd and #FANLUV.”
Father of Asahd, Khaled’s 11th studio album, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, trailing Tyler, the Creator’s IGOR. He reportedly became frustrated with Billboard for not counting an estimated 100,000 downloads that were sold through a bundle deal with energy drink supplements.
According to Khaled, this was initially approved by Billboard before they decided to renege on their decision and disqualified his downloads from the bundle, which cost him the No. 1 spot.
Tyler, the Creator also bundled his IGOR album with merch including T-shirts and posters. He sold 165,000 equivalent album units in his first week, while Khaled moved 136,000 units of Father of Asahd.
This week, Father of Asahd slides 3-8 on the Billboard 200 with 31,000 units.
